I rarely get to do rides visiting places up north, but when I do...
I have long awaited to be able to go through the Bicaz Gorge, if only the Red Lake area would have been less crowded.
The legend says that the Devil himself brought that rock and put it there, I can't remember the reason.
The Red Lake (idk why Red) naturally formed, makes you imagine some apocalyptical event moved mountains to block a river and build a lake...
Gheorgheni had a disaster or a road, half peeled off, half roughly patched, clouds of dust surrounded me as I was riding that street at 5mi/h. But the road further was great in both quality and looks, a sinuous snake around and over some hills, making it easy to ride them faster and to see what's ahead to be able to take those turns with a nice leaning angle.
Red lake complex brings together a ton of activities, and I think it's worth visiting for several days to do them all from hiking trails and via-ferrata to the alpine coaster and boat rides. Food around here is great too because... well you are between two cultures ready to get you fat, drunk and happy and they do it with talent or won't do it at all.
I truly hope I'll come back. Tons of bikers on the road being the most liked roads around in the Moldova area.
This is an area with a lot of stories and a lot of activities both economical, industrial and touristic. Picturesque views with little houses and simple people, old traditions and generations of strong faith in God and hard work.
This is what you want to visit!
