Right after high school in Romania, I packed my dreams and left for Scotland, at a time when work permits were hard to get.
But determination finds a way.
At 19, I landed my first official job as a waitress in an Italian restaurant. I loved it so much that I took on a second full-time job at a prestigious spot. Young, fueled by ambition, I survived on 3-4 hours of sleep, working non-stop with no days off, just to save enough money to return to the country where I believed my soul belonged.
But Moldova had different plans. I left over 10 years ago, and the property I bought to build my travel agency is still tied up in a legal battle between two state institutions.
I spent nearly two years of my youth chasing signatures and documents for my tourism agency, while also running a boutique business, thinking I could succeed by playing by the book and keeping my dignity intact.
But that’s exactly why I failed back then: I was too naive to realize that in a corrupt system, integrity isn’t enough when the rules themselves are broken.
These memories used to carry bitterness, but now I see them as my first lessons in entrepreneurship.
They shaped my mindset, teaching me to seek opportunities, adapt, and never stop exploring new possibilities.
Every challenge was a seed for growth.
At what age did you start your first business, and what’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
