Situated right about the halfway mark between Alfbuefeira and Armacao de Pera, Gale Beach has a mix of the tranquilo Portuguese beach experience while also offering up some of the cool rock formations that make the Algarve coast so special. And there are a couple of beach bars and restaurants right off the sand so you don't have to go to far for that cold cerveja!

Gale has some vast sand area, stretching all the way to the edge of Armacao, if you were so inclined to walk or jog that far. You can climb up on the rocks to get a bird's eye view of the beach (insert a VFC eagle-nose joke here), or you can just kick back on the sand and enjoy the good life.

We did a bit of both on this day, while taking a dip into that fantastic Atlantic Ocean, too! The water here isn't as crystal clear as it is at our favorite cliffjumping beaches of Lagoa, where the rocky coves keep the water especially clear, but it is enjoyable still, and perfect for a day out in the Algarve sun.
