It is the capital of the province of Toledo and of the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 for its extensive cultural and monumental heritage as one of the former capitals of the Spanish Empire and place of coexistence of Christian, Jewish and Moorish cultures. Welcome to Toledo, Spain.The city of Toledo, Spain, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.Toledo was famed for its production of iron and especially of swords and the city is still a center for the manufacture of knives and other steel implements.The city and the people are very welcoming and when you walk in the streets you feel charmed and in admiration for the old city which is very well preserved, clean and beautiful. Alphonse VI of Castille , called Valiant the , king de Castille (1065-1109), king de León (1072-1109), king de Tolède (1085-1109) by conquest and king de Galice (1090-1109), launches out in the reconquest of Moslem Spain (or Reconquista). He calls to the Burgundian knights and in 1085, after a four year old seat, Tolède is taken. Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (September 29, 1547 April 23, 1616) was a Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright. His magnum opus, „Don Quixote, considered the first modern novel is a classic of Western literature and is regularly regarded among the best novels ever written. Cervantes immortalize Toledo, wich is in the province la Mancha, by his roman Don Quixote (El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha in Spanish). Like in most of the Spanish cities, in Toledo the character of Don Quixote is everywhere.
