This is the first video from our trip to Viseu, my hometown in Portugal between 1999 and 2006. It is the regional capital of Beira Alta and is located north of Lisboa and south of Porto, in the interior on the road to Spain. The altitude of the city is more than 500 metres above sea level and to the south you have the mountain range of Serra da Estrela - The Star Mountain - reaching up to 2000 metres above sea level. It is not where the main stream of tourists go, but I can recommend a visit, to the city itself, with its multitude of restaurants for any taste and wallet and to the district around, from the mountains in the south to the valley of Douro in the north. And it is a must for wine lovers! The Dão-region produces some of the best wines in the country. And Viriato? He was a freedom fighter, leading a rebellion against the Romans, said to come from this area.
