After a week of begging to get into the mountains, I finally got there today! I'm starting a 3 day hiking trip here in Kyrgyzstan and I'm so excited to get moving. I've been looking at the Kyrgyz mountains since I got to this country. They kind of just linger there in any view and they've been teasing me to get in and explore and photograph them. Today, I got to do that.
I met up with a Kyrgyz guide, a cook, and a couple porters and we headed off on our trek. We're doing a trek that takes us from Jerghez to Ak-Suu and then to Arashan. On the first leg of the hike, we left Karakol and headed to Jerghez where we started our trip.
The first day of the trip, we had a fair bit of distance to cover. By the end of the day, we would have hiked over 15km and got a vertical gain of about 1400m. It wasn't an easy hike, but it wasn't extreme either. Of course, it helped that we had the Kyrgyz porters carrying a lot of the weight. I basically just had to pack my clothes and camera gear.
The views of the Kyrgyz Mountains just got more and more impressive as we got into them. We eventually made camp along a river with some just unreal views of the mountains. It was the coolest campsite ever. I love being able to wild camp like that. It just makes the experience of hiking in a place like Kyrgyzstan all the more powerful.
At sunset, I managed to catch some pretty nice images of the area as well, despite the fact that I don't have my tripod for the hike.
Tomorrow, the hiking continues here in Kyrgyzstan. The travel vlog will take us over a pretty serious pass, and into some pretty beautiful landscapes.
