Corvinilor Castle, also called Huniazilor or Hunedoara Castle, is the medieval fortress of Hunedoara, one of the most important monuments of Gothic architecture in Romania.
It is considered one of the most beautiful castles in the world, being located in the "top 10 fairytale destinations in Europe".
Hunedoara Castle is the largest dual-function medieval building (civil and military) in Romania that is still "standing".
The castle was built in the 15th century by Iancu de Hunedoara on the site of an old fortification, on a rock at the foot of which flows the Zlaști brook. It is an imposing building with towers, bastions and a keep. The castle was restored and turned into a museum.

The fortress was one of the largest and most famous properties of Iancu de Hunedoara. During this period, the construction underwent significant transformations, serving both as a strengthened strategic point and as a feudal residence. Over the years, the various owners of the castle changed its appearance, enriching it with towers, halls and rooms of honor. The gallery and the keep. The last defense tower (the tower "Ne boisa" = Do not be afraid), remaining unchanged from the time of John of Hunedoara, as well as the Capistrano Tower (after the name of John of Capistrano, a famous Franciscan monk) are some of the most significant parts of construction. We can also mention the Knights' Hall (a large reception room), the Mace Tower, the White Bastion that served as a food depot and the Diet Hall, with medallions painted on the walls, among them are the portraits of Matei Basarab from Wallachia and Vasile Lupu from Moldova). In the wing of the castle called Matia is also quite vague, a painting referring to the legend with the raven from which it is said that they derive their name from the descendants of Ioan de Hunedoara (Corvini). In the castle courtyard, next to the chapel built during the time of John of Hunedoara, there is a 30 meter deep fountain. According to legend, this well was dug by three Turkish prisoners, who were promised freedom if they reached the water. But after 15 years of hard work, when they finished the fountain, the masters did not keep their word. It was said that the inscription on the wall of the fountain means "You have water, you have no heart". In reality, the content deciphered by specialists is the one who wrote this inscription is Hasan, who lives as a slave in the ghiauri, in the fortress next to the church.
Access to Corvin Castle can be made on DN7 (E15) to Sântuhalm, from east or west, and from there following DJ 687 to Hunedoara. The entrance is from Sântuhalm following Traian, Republicii and Libertății boulevards. See map: [8] Geographically, the monument is located in the center of Hunedoara county, in the southwestern part of Hunedoara Municipality, on the last eastern branches of the Poiana Ruscă mountains.
In 2014, the castle was visited by over 230,000 tourists. In 2015, Corvin Castle had 287,000 visitors, in 2016 it was visited by 300,193 tourists. In 2017, the historical monument in Hunedoara was visited by 69,000 people. In 2018, Corvin Castle received over 351,000 tourists.
