Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic inspected the construction of the Bulgarian stretch of the so-called Balkan Stream, an extension of Russia's TurkStream project, near Rasovo on Monday.

Both leaders rode on a helicopter and got a bird's eye view of the progress on the pipeline, which is set to pass through both Bulgaria and Serbia. Reports quoted Borisov expecting that the 474-kilometer (296-mile) Bulgarian stretch of the pipeline carrying Russian natural gas is completed by the end of 2020.

"The construction of this pipeline, both for Bulgaria and Serbia, means the economy growth, the growth of our industries, the securing of our households in the long term with one of the most important natural resources," said Vucic.

Meanwhile Serbia already completed the construction of their part of the pipeline, stretching 403 kilometres (252 miles).

Both leaders also inspected the progress on the construction of the A6 Europa motorway, between Dragoman and Slivnitsa, which connects both neighbouring countries.
