Beijing celebrated the new year with a pre-recorded light show broadcasting overnight from December 31 to January 1.
Celebrations have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic however the city celebrated with a vibrant light show and a synchronised dance routine.
This year marks the third consecutive year Chinese celebrations have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with people being urged not to travel before China's upcoming Lunar New Year.
