The Coronavirus pandemic has had a big impact on travel around the world. Cities which normally would have been overflowing with tourists became ghost towns. Seeing the Trevi fountain in Rome without crowds of people around it would never have been believed until recently.

Rome has changed enormously and some may find it great to experience the city in a constant off-peak mode. This is why I decided to go for a short trip to Rome and see some of the major sites and places (the Colosseum and Pantheon), just to see how the pandemic had changed the way the city looks and feels. Obviously, while visiting Rome, I also decided to visit the Vatican and I was quite lucky to stand just a few metres away from the Pope who held a mass.

When travelling to Rome, I flew with Wizzair from Warsaw (WAW) to Rome Fiumicino (FCO), while Warsaw airport was getting quieter, Rome Fiumicino was much busier with a large number of flights. Rome Fiumicino became the world’s first airport to be awarded Skytrax’s 5 star Covid19 Airport Safety Rating.
