We leave Bled, Slovenia, and start a loop/circle drive that will take us over Vsric Pass...but first, we stumble upon some downhill skiers practicing their ski jumping in September at Planica! PART 1 OF 2!

Leaving Bled isn't easy after the incredible hiking and rainbows! We head northwest from Bled to access Vršič Pass in Slovenia, but first we stop at Planica Nordic Center. Planica is famous for its ski jumps! The Ski Jumping World Cup finals is usually here, as is the Ski Flying World Cup. We completely luck out as there are skiers practicing their jumps in September, landing on a plastic grass that's kept wet by sprinklers. It's incredible to have the area almost to ourselves and to hear the whistle of the skiers as they soar past us (the thumbnail is NOT photoshopped at all!).

After spending a significant amount of time at Planica, we start our windy ascent to Vsric Pass. There are 24 hairpin turns that lead you up to the mountain pass, and then 26 that continue down the other side. Thankfully there are a lot of things to see along the way, including a Russian memorial, some cows, and some World War I buildings. The September weather was a beautiful sunny day, and the roads were uncrowded in 2021.
