EU budget vote: MEPs to sign off spending plan for the next 7 years

MEPs will vote today on the next EU Budget which allocates how the bloc will spend 1.1 trillion euros over the next seven years. It also includes a 750 billion euro Covid recovery fund.
The fiscal package had been held up because of a row between member states and Hungary and Poland. They threatened to wield their veto over stipulations that tie the funds to upholding the EU's 'rule of law' standards.
A compromise was reached at last week's European Council meeting.
