EPISODE 6 Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot.
Sea breezes, tall ships, a nautical tradition, a long, rich and fascinating part of Polish history and great Polish seafood – this is what viewers will have a chance to experience in this episode of Flavor of Poland with a visit to the Pomeranian region! Located along Poland’s northern border, viewers will explore this region through a visit to its three, well-known coastal cities –Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, collectively known as the Tri-cities.
The journey starts with a visit to the old, port city of Gdańsk where Aleksandra strolls along the Motława River, takes a walk through the Long Market (Długi Targ) and surrounding streets, exploring important landmarks and learning about the city’s former glory as a leader of the Hanseatic League, as well as its role in more recent historical events such as WWII and the Polish Solidarity Movement. Following this walk through Poland’s coastal history, she ventures into Gdynia and Sopot where she tries the best of Poland’s Baltic tastes, sampling grilled, fresh-caught fish paired with local craft beers and learns how to make a unique amber soup from the very author of its recipe, Chef Andrzej Ławniczak! Along the way she steps aboard Poland’s legendary tall ship, Dar Pomorza, and learns about Gdynia’s role in the historic wave of Polish emigration with a visit to the city’s impressive Emigration Museum. Of course, a visit to Poland’s favorite vacation destination would not be complete without a walk down its famous Sopot boardwalk too.
The stroll along Poland’s Baltic coast ends with a recipe for a couple of the Pomeranian region’s iconic dishes – cod meatballs in cream and a unique, historic dessert called “Gdańsk Milk.”
Viewers will be able to learn all this and more as they set sail to the Polish coast in episode #6 of the Flavor of Poland series.
