The Russian military has fired a missile into the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv's Freedom Square, killing multiple civilians. Many people are trying to leave Ukraine, but as Mike Armstrong reports, some Kharkiv residents are refusing to budge. Plus, Dawna Friesen speaks with Kharkiv resident Maria Avdeeva, founder of the European Expert Association, on the city's worsening situation and her fears for the future of Ukrainians.

Chaos and casualties are also rising in Kyiv, and the Kremlin is warning residents to leave if they live near communications and military facilities. Associated Press journalist Joe Federman reports from Ukraine's capital on the mood there, and the questions about President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's whereabouts and safety.

Meanwhile, the European Parliament has overwhelmingly accepted Ukraine's application to join the European Union, as the country is invaded by Russian President Vladimir Putin. As Jackson Proskow reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is pleading for the process to be fast-tracked, as the international response against Russia ramps up.

And with Ukrainians standing firm as Russia bolsters attacks on major cities. Global National's Dawna Friesen speaks with Retired U.S. Gen. Hawk Carlisle to hear what he finds alarming about Russian President Vladimir Putin's strategy, when the West might actually provide defence to Ukraine, and what sets this conflict apart from previous ones.

As the war rages in Ukraine, concerns are also rising over vulnerabilities in Latvia, the NATO member which neighbours Russia. As Eric Sorensen reports, Canada's military mission in Latvia is being magnified, as Moscow's aggression proves more unpredictable.

In Canada, Alberta is now dropping most of its public health measures, as the province enters Step 2 of its reopening plan during the pandemic. As Heather Yourex-West explains, the province's goal to be open for spring is causing concerns.
