Are you wondering about the process of applying for a Thailand Retirement Visa?

There are two options available. You can either apply outside of Thailand at the Thai Embassy in your country. This is the Non immigrant OA visa or you can apply once you are in Thailand and this is the Non immigrant O. I’m going to focus on the Non Immigrant O as this tends to be a more common choice.

The first thing you need to do is get to Thailand. The tourist visa allows you to enter Thailand and stay for up to 60 days. Once you are in Thailand you can then visit immigration and exyend this by a further 30 days , giving you a total stay of 90 days.

It’s important that when you apply for the retirement visa you must have 15 days left on your current visa.

You can make the application yourself or there are numerous agencies around the country who will help you prepare your application for a fee. I’ll go through what you need to preparare now so you know what you need should you decide to make the application yourself.

Bank Statement 800,000THB. - You must ask the bank staff to issue a bank letter which verifies that you have deposited this amount into a Thai bank account. The account must be in your name only. It can’t be a joint bank account.

There’s a misconception that you need to put the 800,000THB in a Thai bank account and then wait for sixty days before applying for your Non O visa. That’s not true. Once you arrive in Thailand you can go to a Thai bank account, deposit the money , get your bank letter and then head to immigration to make your application. There is a second option available with the funds you have. If you don’t have 800.000THB but you have an income from your own country which is 65,000THB or more a month you can apply. This income needs to be verified with an affidavit from your Embassy but i know many countries don’t issue these anymore.

The next thing you need is the application form. There are two forms available.

Proof of address - rental contract

With this Non O application you will receive a stamp in your passport for 90 days. Then you’d need to return to immigration to to extend this. Give yourself at least a few days before the expiry date. At this stage there is a requirement that you have had the 800,000THB in a Thai bank account for 2 months. My advice is when you applied for the Non 0 three months ago you deposited 800,000 THB Make sure you don’t dip into that below and go below that amount.

Again you need the following things ;-
Valid passport
Passport photo
1,900 THB
TM7

Once you have the extension there is a requirement that you must leave the 800,000THB in your Thai bank account for at least three months. Then after that you can withdraw some of this money but you must leave at least 400,000THB in your account.
