For my Fiancés Birthday this year, I decided to treat him with a trip to the beautiful city of Kraków for one of his presents and it didn’t disappoint! Kraków has been named the number 1 city destination in Europe (we can see why) and it also has the largest Main Square which is so cool!
Of course, any trip to Kraków/Poland should include a visit to Auschwitz, whether it is for educational purposes, self-educational purposes or to remember the victims and pay respect. Although the trip was originally just to celebrate Ryan’s Birthday, we knew we could not go to Kraków and not see Auschwitz with our own eyes. The thing with Auschwitz is that growing up you learn about the Holocaust, you read different books and watch films and documentaries, so you probably have some sort of idea of what to expect and what Auschwitz will look like but honestly, nothing will prepare you for the horror and dismay you feel when you actually see it with your own eyes and understand that this was only 75 years ago - a lot of our grandparents were children when this was happening. Although it was a sad part of the trip, it was also an important part, which is why I have chosen to include it in Ryan’s Birthday Vlog. I know lots of people want to visit Auschwitz for various reasons and maybe can’t, so that part is also for those people or people interested in visiting.
DISCLAIMER: The end of this Vlog contains images of Auschwitz which some may find disturbing. There are certain areas where taking photos or filming is strictly forbidden: the hall with hairs of victims (Block no. 4) and in Block no. 11. All pictures taken and included were taken in permitted locations ONLY. This section of the Vlog was created purely for respect to the victims and for self-educational purposes.
