Boris Johnson began his speech at the Conservative Party Spring Conference by declaring solidarity with those in Ukraine, adding: "We stand with the Ukrainian people and our hearts go out to them".

The prime minister said that he was "proud" of the sanctions handed out by the government to Russian oligarchs, targeting their "yachts and their assets".

He admits there is a "cost" to this but says "the cost of doing nothing would be far, far higher".
