Liège is the largest city in Belgium’s French-speaking Wallonia region. The city is world famous for its Liege waffles and its long staircase Montagne de Bueren. Wealthy churches, medieval buildings, top-class museums and art galleries makes it one of Europe’s top cities. Here I’m walking from the summit of the staircase to the city centre in January 2022. If you are into art and architecture, there cannot be a better heaven to experience. Liège offers distinctively charming neighborhoods with unique views and vistas that go far beyond typical old town buildings. Montagne de Bueren is a must visit 374-step staircase, named after the revolutionary figure of Vincent de Bueren. It was built to honour the 600 soldiers who died in the battle of 1881. At the summit you can see a war memorial along with some of the best panoramic views of the city. Interesting fact: It was ranked as #1 on the list of Most Extreme Staircases!
