The Head of the Russian Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov speaking at a press briefing from Moscow, Friday, confirmed that all flights between the "Russian Federation and Egypt are cancelled." Safonov added that "this decision was taken by Russian President Vladimir Putin."


SOT, Oleg Safonov, Head of The Russian Federal Agency for Tourism, (Russian): "We have to determine the exact number of our tourists which are currently on vacation in Egypt, where exactly they are staying, their names and phone numbers. Actually, we have already started this work. We attracted the largest tour operators to do this work, tour agency chains and the Outbound Tourism Association. All the information will be received tomorrow. We have set up a Commission meeting at 10:00 am. Currently we are aware that about forty-five thousand people are staying in Egypt. They are in two regions: in the Sinai peninsula in the Sharm el-Sheikh region there are about 40 percent of these people and the rest are staying in Hurghada." *SOUND LEVEL INCREASES AT SOURCE*

SOT, Oleg Safonov, Head of The Russian Federal Agency for Tourism, (Russian): "Our institution will be informing tourists about the fact that the flights between the Russian Federation and Egypt are cancelled. I would like to remind that this decision was taken by President Vladimir Putin. Also the measures will be undertaken on developing the ways for Russian tourists to come back to the fatherland. And our task will be to inform the tourists who are currently in Egypt about these measures."

SOT, Oleg Safonov, Head of The Russian Federal Agency for Tourism, (Russian): "According to the information that we have, all the flights starting 8:00 am (Moscow Time) were cancelled and actually since the President's announcement, all the flights were cancelled."
