Moldova is partly occupied by pro-Russian forces. Their capital was allegedly the target of a Moscow coup. Airlines refuse to fly there because of Russian missiles. It’s a country seen as a battleground for the future of democracy in Europe.

While war rages in Ukraine, Putin and Russia could see Moldova as the best chance to bring a pro-Europe nation under Russian control.
