Background
The Crimea Platform is a consultation and communication format set up by Ukraine’s president in August 2021 to structure all issues related to the peninsula. The aim of this format is to elaborate practical approaches to bringing attention to the situation in Crimea and discussing opportunities for its return to Ukraine.
The role of third parties – meaning external actors – is crucial for the future of the Crimea Platform. At present, we can observe the buildup of Russia’s military presence and the changing security situation in the region around the Black and Azov Seas. Sevastopol is a crucial starting point for Russia’s military activities.
During the sessions in this seminar, experts from Ukraine and Germany will discuss such issues as Black Sea security and the role of the Crimea Platform as a foreign policy tool. They will also assess the current situation in Crimea, including human rights violations and other challenges resulting from the annexation, the militarization of the region, and the impact of European sanctions as well as the EU’s non-recognition policy.
