WHAT TO DO IN RIGA IN ONE DAY? (EXPLORING THE LATVIAN CAPITAL!)

Curious about what to do in Riga in one day? In this Riga Latvia tour, we take you to some of the best places to see in Latvia's capital. From the spot of the first Christmas tree to the controversial Cat House and the Black Magic Bar, Riga is full of interesting places.

Our first stop on our Riga walking tour is at the House of the Blackheads. It is located in the heart of Old Town Riga in the Riga Town Hall Square. The Brotherhood of Blackheads hosted wild parties there. The first public Christmas tree is said to have been displayed here in 1503.

Our next stop was at St. Peter's Church, the tallest church in Riga. Located next to St. Peter's Church is the Bremen Town Musicians statue. It is based off of the Brothers' Grimm story.

Next we walked to Riga's Freedom Monument. It honors those killed during the Latvian War of Independence. Around the base of the monument you will find guards on duty.

Near the Freedom Monument is the Powder Tower. It was originally part of Riga's defense system.

Just down the street is the Cat House. It is located in Riga's Old Town and has an interesting history. It was owned by a wealthy Latvian trader that wasn't accepted into the Great Guild. In response, he put copper cats on the roof with their tails facing the Great Guild building.

After the cat house, we went to the Swedish Gate. It was part of the Old Town walls during medieval times and the last remaining gate.

For lunch, we headed to Key to Riga. It serves up traditional Latvian food. Here we tried Latvian grey peas with speck and local beers. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy with a medieval decor.

After lunch, we located the Three Brothers. It consists of three of the oldest medieval houses in Riga.

Our last stop in Riga was at the Black Magic Bar. It has been around since 1752. Here we tried the famous Riga Black Balsam. The recipe for this liqueur has been the same for 250 years. We tried the original black balsam and the black currant balsam along with chocolate.
