Algarve, Portugal

"Time to gear down," is what the sleepy coastal town said to me.

Long been the place for Europeans, especially the British during winter months, Algarve is awash of hotels and condos catering to the retired lifestyle. You can find advertisements for English breakfast everywhere in the center of town, on the cheap I may add.

The place can come to life, however, if you desire a wine tour or you want to indulge in the various produce market trying to mix in with the locals or tourists staying long term - all while having fun frolicking on the incredible beach and surf.

Essentially, it can be a home away from home, if you want it to be, with a little culture thrown in, should you want more.
