O Camão (Porphyrio porphyrio), também denominado por Caimão ou por Galinha-sultana, pertence à família Rallidae. Mede entre 45 a 50 cm de comprimento. Caracteriza-se pela plumagem azul, que contrasta com o branco das penas infracaudais. Apresenta também uma placa frontal vermelha, o bico vermelho e grandes patas avermelhadas com dedos bastante compridos. A plumagem dos juvenis é azul-acinzentada e as suas patas são rosa-acinzentadas.
Esta espécie reside e nidifica no Algarve, podendo ser observada nesta região ao longo de todo o ano. Ocorre sobretudo em zonas húmidas de água doce com vegetação abundante de tábua, juncos e caniços.
Esta ave aquática constitui o símbolo do Parque Natural da Ria Formosa.
