Australia is reviewing its travel advisories to Italy after the spread of COVID-19 forced the country into a total lockdown.

Health Minister Greg Hunt said any changes to the advice will handed down within 24 hours.

“We have done that obviously on the basis of the growth in cases over the last 48 hours in particular, and with regards to Italy's own decisions,” he said.

The number of Australian cases of COVID-19 has risen to at least 100, and three people have died from the disease.

Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy assured the situation in Australia has remained “much the same”.

“In Australia, our situation is very much the same as it's been over the last few days.”
