O Perna-vermelha (Tringa totanus) é uma ave limícola, da família Scolopacidae. Como o nome indica, tem as patas vermelhas-alaranjadas. Mede entre 24 a 27 cm de comprimento e 47 a 53 cm de envergadura. Caracteriza-se também pelo bico vermelho-alaranjado com a ponta escura. Na cabeça sobressai o anel orbital esbranquiçado. Em relação à plumagem, apresenta sobretudo o castanho-acinzentado na parte superior, o esbranquiçado na parte inferior, o branco na orla das asas e no uropígio, riscas brancas e castanho-acinzentadas na cauda e pintas escuras difusas. Na plumagem nupcial ostenta uma maior quantidade de pintas.
Esta espécie, residente e migradora, pode ser observada no Algarve ao longo de todo o ano. Ocorre sobretudo em zonas húmidas do litoral.
