Portimao's historic significance in the canned fish industry can hardly be overstated. We took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Museu do Portimao and followed it up with some delicious sardines and other canned fish at top rated Maria do Mar. We were blown away by the creativity these local business owners have shown in building out their retail shop and by offering a tapas menu for on site degustation. The prices were exceptionally reasonable (we paid 34 euro and had plenty of food & drink for two).
This place is truly unique and presents an opportunity to try the local canned delicacies.
