For 3 days, Taveras and the Algarve hosted the 8th edition of the Algarve Bike Challenge. One of the first MTB Stage Races of the international calendar welcomed 1100 riders from 16 countries to an outstanding off-road cycling weekend. Racing in teams of two riders, the competitiveness between the fastest male teams was really high and just 4 seconds gave the title to Del Nero and Crespo over the former cycling star Francisco Mancebo and his teammate, Juan Trujillo. On the 3rd place finished the 2019 winners, Andrew Henriques and Hernani Silva.

The race started with a short and intense night prologue in the magnificent historic center of Tavira. The European Master XC Champion José Ortega along with Ivan Martinez set the fastest time on this day taking the general lead on this day.

The 2nd Stage was a demanding 87 km course, with more than 2300mt of climbing along the challenging hills of the Algarve’s inland. Mancebo and Trujillo played their cards on the last decisive climbs and only Del Nero and Crespo were able to follow them, finishing the stage on the 2nd place with the same time, while the previous leaders lost important time for the general classification with a puncture, dropping to the 6th place.

For the 3rd and last stage, Del Nero and Crespo started with the leader yellow jersey due to the gap won in the first day over Mancebo and Trujillo. In a totally different course type, much faster and more technical, Andrew Henriques and Hernani Silva brilliantly won this stage 30 seconds ahead of Ortega and Martinez, while the leaders perfectly managed the gap, finishing the day on 3rd position, securing the yellow jersey to become the winners of the Algarve Bike Challenge 2020.

Finishing 2nd overall, Francisco Mancebo and Juan Pedro Trujillo won the Masters category.

On the female category, the KMC Team of the Dutch Karen Brouwer and the German Naima Madlen dominated the race, winning all stages. The winner of 2019, Celina Carpinteiro and Charlotte Davies finished 2nd and Desireé Millán with Tamara Cardoso completed the podium on the 3rd place.

Ilda Pereira and Bruno Magalhães won for the 2nd consecutive time the Mixed category, Jorge Janeiro and Cristina Barberan won the Master Mixed and Gil Azoia along with Reinaldo Luis were the winners on the Grand Masters category.

Another huge successful edition of the Algarve Bike Challenge. A Mountain Bike Stage Race that welcomes competitive elite athletes as well as passionate amateur riders who aim to overcome their limits and enjoy a great event in the beautiful natural scenery of the Algarve region in Portugal. For a considerable number of participants, completing these three challenging stages and becoming a finisher is the main goal in the Algarve Bike Challenge.
