Colmar is a town and commune in the Haut-Rhin département of Alsace, France, of which it is the préfecture (capital). Colmar was founded in the 9th century. It was granted the status of a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire in 1226. The city is known for its well-preserved old town and as it is situated along the Alsatian Wine Route it considers itself to be the "Capital of Alsatian Wine" (capitale des vins d'Alsace). Colmar est une ville et une commune dans le département du Haut-Rhin de l'Alsace, la France, dont elle est la préfecture. Colmar a été fondée au 9ème siècle. Elle a obtenu le statut d'une ville impériale libre du saint Empire romain germanique en 1226. Colmar est connue pour sa vieille ville qui est bien conservé. Comme elle est située le long de la Route des Vins d'Alsace, elle se considère comme la capitale de Vins d'Alsace.
