A visit to Sophia, the capital of Bulgaria, in June 2009. Sophia is built on a plain at the foot of the green Mount Vitosha, and has a population of 1.4 million. The Thracians built a walled city there 2700 years ago, next to a mineral spring which still flows. The town is filled with impressive buildings right next to quiet shaded alleys and is lively and attractive.
