The Charles Bridge in Prague is an important cobblestone bridge, lined with 30 intricate statues (of saints and important historical personalities) and lamp posts on either side. It was constructed and reconstructed many times. The existing stone bridge was built in 14th century. Previously it was called Judith Bridge and Prague Bridge. In 1870 it was named Charles Bridge after King Charles IV. It was made pedestrian bridge in 1950. It crosses the river Vltava (vertava) to the Prague Castle. The view from this bridge of both the city skyline and the river below are stunning. For centuries, this bridge was the only link between Lesser Town on the left bank of the Vltava River and Old Town on the right bank.
