Welcome to Fulidhoo island which is located in the Vaavu Atoll, just 57km (or just over an hour speedboat) south of Male Airport, situated just below the popular local island of Maafushi.
With only 700m x 200m, and with around 300 permanent residents, Fulidhoo is really all about the local island vibes, sleepy and quiet, but stunning in beauty.

How to get to the island?

The easiest option, is the speedboat transfer and takes just over an hour, and costs $40 per person.
By Public Ferry: This is over twice the travel time at about 3 hours but it is also a fraction of the cost at $3.50

Where To Stay On Fulidhoo?

There are several accommodation options on the island, and i stayed in Fulidhoo Ihaa Lodge.

Kinan Retreat (Beachside)
Fulidhoo Ihaa Lodge (snorkeling side)
Seena Inn
Luau Beach Inn (Beachside) –
Eveyla Guesthouse
Malas Island View
Sancia Lodge
Island Break
Thundi SeaView (Beachside) –
Fulidhoo La Perla

Things To Do On Fulidhoo

Tourist Beach___ chill out at the dedicated tourist/bikini beach and swim in the clear waters of the lagoon, perfect for relaxing!

Kayaking in the lagoon___ a much better way to enjoy the waters around the island – grab a paddle and enjoy the views

Play Volleyball___ volleyball is played every day in the island, and it`s an excellent way to interact with the locals. All levels.

Manta Rays snorkeling___ this is one of my favorite activities.

Whale Shark Snorkeling___ sometimes the resorts run a whale shark snorkeling excursion, if they’ve been seen in the local area which is indeed well worth it, to cruise alongside these incredible creatures

Snorkelling Day Trip___ if you’re not scuba diving, join the crew of Fulidhoo dive for a snorkel trip instead and check out the stunning coral gardens around the island.

Cultural Dance___ the island is actually pretty renowned for the local dancing and performances, so make sure you check them out one night as they’re often on for free at the cafes and local stadium.

Stingray Feeding___ Originally local fishermen used to throw their scraps to the stingrays, so they came in close to shore for a free meal. Now its a nightly thing more aimed at tourists.

Day trip to luxury resort___ for those who want to enjoy the luxury lifestyle you can do a day trip to some of the surrounding resorts which include food and even alcohol. A great way to enjoy paradise without a huge price tag!

How Much To Budget For Fulidhoo?

So here’s a quick run down of the main costs on Fulidhoo…
Local ferry from Male__ $3
Speed boat from Male__ $40
Budget guest house__ $40
Mid range hotel __ $60-100
Local style meal__ $5
Western style meal__ $10

“Fulidhoo is actually a pretty reasonably priced island to stay on in the Maldives”

The high season of December to April is the best time to visit for scuba diving, with great visibility, good currents and dry weather.

Other Things To Know About Visiting Fulidhoo
**IMPORTANT** – ATMs: A big thing to stress about the island (and a lot of the local islands actually) is there is NO ATM/cash machine, so you need to come prepared! Also (and even more annoyingly) a lot of hotels and guest houses don’t accept card either, so you need to make sure you grab a good chunk of dollar from the airport on arrival!

Religion: Like the whole country, 100% Muslim
You’ll find: a health center, a school, community center, mosque, shops, cafes, guesthouses.

Alcohol available: No

Tap water drinkable?: No

Internet: There is WiFi in the guesthouses but it might be a bit weak. Buy a sim from the airport instead if you’re going to need to be online!
