(10 Jan 2021) Around 3,000 people took the streets of the Czech Republic's capital Prague on Sunday in protest against continuing coronavirus restrictions in the country.
The Czech Republic reimposed anti-COVID-19 measures ahead of Christmas due to rising COVID-19 infections, which included the closing of bars, restaurants and hotels.
Restaurants and bars were allowed to reopen on December 3 as infection rates were on the decline, but they started to rise again soon after that date and the government decided to close them to stem the numbers on December 27.
Prime Minister Andrej Babis has called the move frustrating but necessary.
He said the government will compensate businesses for their losses.
Stores, except those selling essential goods such as food and medicine, are also closed throughout country and there is a daily curfew nationwide from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
The restrictions have been extended until January 22nd.
