V roce 1927 publikovala Toyen spolu s Jindřichem Štýrským a novinářem Vincencem Nečasem Průvodce Paříží pro turisty. Příručka čítající přes 800 stran mapuje místa, kde se čeští turisté mohli najíst nebo si vyměnit peníze, poukazuje ale také na umělecké ateliéry a kina. Na základě této publikace představí přednáška Meghan Forbes z newyorského Metropolitního muzea umění Paříž bouřlivých dvacátých let optikou českých turistů a zejména Toyen, která často podnikala toulky tímto jedinečným městem.

TOURISM AND THE AVANT-GARDE – A GUIDEBOOK TO PARIS

In 1927, Toyen, together with Jindřich Štyrský and the journalist Vincenc Nečas, published a tour guide to Paris. Průvodce Paříží maps out in over 800 pages where Czech visitors should eat their meals and exchange money, but also where to visit artists' ateliers and go to the cinema. Through an exploration of the guide book’s contents, Meghan Forbes will introduce the Paris of the roaring twenties as experienced by and for Czech travelers, and consider in particular the path that Toyen cut through the city, as a rare flâneuse. Mrs. Forbes is a postdoctoral fellow in the Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The lecture hosted by Jitka Šosová is in English with Czech subtitles.
