Snow brings out skiers on Charles Bridge in Prague

City skiers turned a Prague bridge into an unlikely trail on Tuesday in an opportunity not to miss during ski resort closures in the Czech Republic.

About a dozen people arrived at the historic Charles Bridge which became the site of an improvised cross country ski track.

After about 15 cm (almost six inches) of snow Monday and another fresh coat of powder on Tuesday morning they used a snowy strip running down the middle of the bridge left behind by snow ploughs as a track.

Among them, Jan Latal, said of the chance to hit the trail in such an unlikely spot, "It is an opportunity, I will probably tell this to my grandchildren."

Downhill skiing resorts are now closed in the Czech Republic due to COVID-19 restrictions but cross country is still available as an outdoor activity.
