Prague (Czech: Praha) is the capital of the Czech Republic. The city is located on the Vltava River in Central Bohemia, and has almost 1.67 million inhabitants, not to mention the approximately 300,000 commuters who work in the city but do not live here.

Prague has various nicknames, including Prague mater urbium ("mother of cities"), "City of a Hundred Bells" or "City of Gold". Since 1992, the historic center of Prague has been included on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage Sites.

Prague is home to many famous cultural attractions, many of which have survived the violence and destruction of twentieth-century Europe. The main attractions include Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Prague Old Town Square with the Astronomical Clock, the Jewish Quarter, Petřín Hill and Vyšehrad. Since 1992, the historic center of Prague has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The city has more than ten major museums, along with numerous theaters, galleries, cinemas and other historical exhibitions. An extensive modern public transport system connects the city. It also hosts a wide range of public and private schools, including the University of Prague, the oldest university in Central Europe.
