The European Commission "will continue constructively" in its relations with the United States amid the European Parliament's decision to reintroduce visa travel for American citizens to Europe, stated Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas, during the midday press briefing in Brussels, Friday.

SOT, Margaritis Schinas, Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission (English): "We take note of the resolution vote of yesterday by the European Parliament. As you know, Commissioner Avramopoulos was in the United States recently on the 8th of February to relaunch our efforts to push for full-visa reciprocity with the new US administration. As you know, our approach of continued engagement and patient diplomatic contacts brought tangible results on this issue with Canada; and our assessment of the situation with the United States has not changed, and we will continue constructively without discussions. At the same time, of course, the Commission will continue to work closely with both the European Parliament and the Council and will report on further progress before the end of June."
