Hey friends. This time I'm in Poland. I took a very spontaneous trip to Krakow, Poland in order to push myself out of my comfort zone a little bit while travelling.
I stayed in the Old Town city centre in Krakow and also explored the Jewish District called Kazimierz via a golf cart tour. It's a beautiful city with a surrounding park, river, castle, lots of museums including a concentration camp.
Racism is always a big concern for the majority of Black travellers, and Poland is one of the countries where I assumed I will experience racism. I'm glad I did step out of my comfort zone because I realised that it's not as bad as I've been made to believe. Yes, some older people were staring and yes I was one of 3 Black people I saw the entire time I was there, but generally people mind their business and the younger people that I spoke to were extremely friendly and welcoming. There's definitely a clear divide between the younger and older generations. I spoke to the two other Black people in Poland that I met and they shared similar experiences.
If you do want to travel to Poland, I recommend going and seeing for yourself. Poland is quite safe in 2022, not just in terms of racism but also during the Ukraine / Russian war. Just make sure you stay in tourist areas, as per recommendations by the locals.
Black women travelling alone, I think Krakow Poland is a good place to solo travel in 2022. Just be aware that you might feel a little self conscious while you're there.
At the end of the vlog I use public transport (bus and tram) to get back to Krakow Airport and it's a relatively easy journey although Google Maps was my best friend over there - and then back from Krakow to London, Stansted Airport.
