Booking an unplanned, spontaneous trip to a random Eastern European city (Never heard of the place!)

Have you ever taken a random, spontaneous adventure overseas? Totally unplanned, with near-zero foresight or preparation? Sometimes, these are the best trips that a traveler can hope for; the story unfolds and writes itself, one minute at a time. This past summer, with Canada relaxing its guidelines for international travel, I headed over to Air Canada Aeroplan and booked a one way ticket to Eastern Europe, with no firm plans - no plans at all, really. Even the destination was a surprise.

The goal was simple: find a destination that I'd never been, and get there in the shortest possible time. After mulling a few destinations, Romania topped my short list - specifically, the northeastern Romanian city of Iasi (pronounced "Yawsh". From there, Romania and Moldova would be at my fingertips. I didn't give it even a moment of contemplation, quickly booking my ticket, then quickly packing a bag and heading to the airport.

Planning has its time and place - but if you want real adventure, skip the plan and book something you'd never have even contemplated even minutes earlier. I highly recommend mixing it up once and a while, and flying by the seat of your pants, so to speak!
