The journey continues...

At Golden Connections International, we have discovered that some of the richest cultural experiences are often found in the simplest traditions. Our next stop in the village of Văleni, in Moldova's Cahul District, introduced us to a place unlike any other, the country's remarkable Bread Museum.

This is no ordinary museum. Here, history is not kept behind glass or protected by signs that say "Do not touch." Instead, visitors are invited to experience Moldova's baking traditions with all their senses. From beautifully crafted bagels and traditional kalaches to intricate dough creations, every exhibit tells a story of heritage, craftsmanship, and community, and many can even be tasted.

Founded by Vera Kaminskaya, whose award-winning bakery inspired the creation of the museum, the Bread Museum celebrates a tradition that has been passed down through generations. Using recipes that are more than a century old, the bakery continues to produce bread with only the essential ingredients: water, flour, yeast, salt, and, as Vera passionately believes, an abundance of love. It is a philosophy that reminds us that the finest traditions are preserved not only through recipes, but through the values and care of the people who keep them alive.

Beyond the bread itself, the museum offers visitors a glimpse into Moldova's cultural heritage through traditional ceremonies and local customs, showcasing the deep connection between food, family, and community. It is another powerful reminder that understanding a country begins by understanding the traditions that have shaped its people.

With every village we visit and every story we uncover, another hidden piece of Moldova reveals itself.
