Skopje is called the "city of statues". A strong earthquake in 1963 destroyed most of the city's historical monuments. About 40 years later, the government implemented a project to "rebuild" the city with statues.
North Macedonia is geographically located in the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe.
