Due to a ruthless combo of corruption-induced debt, and pandemic-induced economic woes (no tourism in a country where it's a primary industry), the country is in debt to the tune of $51-billion!
Sri Lankan people are fed up, and their president has now fled the country due to the protests. But it's real rough for everyday people, with food and medicine hard to come by.
And of course, now the vultures are arriving, offering loans in exchange for certain... useful things...
Except India, who has actually given them a fair bit of help. Heck yeah, India.
