Please join the Project on Prosperity and Development for a conversation with Former USAID Administrators Henrietta Fore, Rajiv Shah, Gayle Smith, and Mark Green to discuss USAID’s response to an era of great power competition.

Since 1961, USAID has been working to advance U.S. foreign policy goals in building strong democracies and market systems while helping countries address extreme poverty and global challenges such as pandemics, food insecurity, and climate change. Working with allies and international partners, USAID’s current operations extend to more than 100 countries worldwide. Today, many developing countries possess better institutional capacity to craft their own development paths and finance their policy priorities. At the same time, China and Russia are offering an alternative model of development. Given the new realities, the U.S. should adapt its development strategy and its toolkit. The new realities may require different staffing requirements to better respond to the world as we find it.
