Who lives in Transnistria the country that doesn’t exist? In this Eastern Europe Vlog, we talk to a local working in the old USSR Canteen. We each ordered our own dish, dessert, and coffee. Our entire meal at Stolovka (USSR Canteen) cost a total of $5, which makes Tiraspol in Transnistria a great option if you are traveling Europe on a budget!

Are you interested in being a tourist in a country that doesn’t exist? Have you ever heard of Transnistria? Transnistria, officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), is an unrecognized breakaway state that is internationally recognized as part of Moldova.

Transnistria has its own army, currency, border control, and judicial system. This “country” is only recognized by three other unrecognized states: Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Nagorno-Karabakh.

We took a minibus from Stolovka (USSR Canteen) to the second largest city in Transnistria. The minibus ride to Bender only cost $0.70! In Bender, we bought tickets to view the Tighina Fortress, which were $6 total. Everything in Transnistria has been highly affordable!

The next day we rode a minibus back to Chisinau for $8. Once in Chisinau, we decided to share closing thoughts about our time in Transnistria. If you want to travel to Transnistria in 2022 we recommend that you bring cash, consider going just for a day trip, and try to learn a little Russian before going, it’ll go a long way with the locals!

After watching this Eastern Europe Vlog, would you visit Transnistria in 2022?
