This time, under the first Prague snowfall in 2021, we will visit the main Christmas tree in Prague, walk from the Powder Tower to Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) across Estates Theatre! The weather was terrible that day, but it's still stunning around!

The Powder Tower is one of Old Town's original 13 city gates, Prague. Its construction began in 1475. The tower was intended to be an attractive entrance into the city instead of a defensive tower. The foundation stone was placed by Vladislav II. The city council gave Vladislav II the tower as a coronation gift. While it was being built, it was called the New Tower. The look of the tower was inspired by the work of Peter Parler on the Charles Bridge.

The Estates Theatre was built during the late 18th century in response to Enlightenment thought regarding public access to the theatre and theatres themselves demonstrating the cultural standards. The Estates Theatre was designed by Anton Haffenecker and built in a little less than two years for the aristocrat František Antonín Count Nostitz Rieneck.

The Estates Theatre was not limited to native participants; many famous European artists were also active. Individuals such as Carl Maria von Weber, Anton Rubinstein, Karl Goldmark, and Gustav Mahler conducted at the Estates Theatre. Other famous names include the actors A.W. Iffland, F. Raimund, J.N. Nestroy, opera singer Angelica Catalani and violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini.

One of the Estates Theatre's many claims to glory is its strong link with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who conducted the world premiere of his opera Don Giovanni here in October 1787. Also, in 1791, Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito was staged in public here for the first time in celebration of the coronation of Emperor Leopold II. It is the only theatre left standing where Mozart performed.

Old Town Square - Staroměstské náměstí or colloquially Staromák is a historic square in the Old Town quarter of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. It is located between Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge.

The Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn
The square features buildings belonging to various architectural styles, including the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn, the main church of this part of the city since the 14th century. Its characteristic towers are 80 m high. The Baroque St. Nicholas Church is another church located in the square. Prague Orloj is a medieval astronomical clock mounted on the Old Town Hall. The watch was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock globally and the oldest one still in operation. The tower of the Old Town Hall is open to the public and offers panoramic views of the Old Town.
