What are the worst cities in Europe? Europe is a continent of the bests. No doubt, people from all walks of life and on every other continent flock there for different reasons. Topmost among them are education and job. The world's biggest ex-pat community, with about 4 million members, InterNations, surveys more than 15,000 ex-pats throughout the world every year to determine the best and the worst locations to live. In the most recent survey, we find the 10 worst cities to live in Europe.
In this video, you will see why we agree with that rating based on variables such as work-life, the quality of city life, and the cost of living. Here are the 10 worst cities to live in Europe, according to the survey.
10. Bradford, UK
Bradford is the most hazardous city in West Yorkshire, and it is among the top 5 most dangerous cities out of the 121 towns, villages, and cities in the county of West Yorkshire. Bradford had an overall crime rate of 132 offenses per 1,000 inhabitants in 2020. Compared to West Yorkshire's general crime rate of 113 per 1,000 population, it is 21.9 percent higher. Bradford is the third most dangerous city in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland and the 194th most hazardous location overall out of all towns, cities, and villages in the United Kingdom.
Violence and sexual offenses are the most prevalent crimes in Bradford, with 21,597 incidents reported in 2020, resulting in a crime rate of 61 percent. This represents a 0.65 percent increase over the previous year's total of 21,386 offenses. In Bradford, bicycle theft is the most seldom committed crime. In 2020, 171 offenses were reported, representing a decline of 1.19 percent from the previous year's total of 174 offenses.
9. Constanta, Romania.
Romania is a magical and beautiful gem located in the far north of the Balkan Peninsula. It was carved out from the other notable Balkan nations by two mountain rings—the Carpathian Mountains and the ancient mountains of Dobrogea, both located in the Dobrogea region.
While crime against tourists continues to be a concern in Romania because of its high rate in Constanta, mugging is not a problem. But scams do take place very frequently in this city. Just anyone can be overcharged in pubs or by street sellers. Drink spiking is also a problem in nightclubs.
8. Podgorica, Montenegro
Podgorica is the capital city of Montenegro, a hilly country in the Balkans known for its rough landscape. The Podgorica Municipality, named after Gorica Hill, which overlooks the city, serves as the country's cultural, economic, and educational core, among other things. Though it has some delightful sites to discover, it’s not a must-see destination.
There appears to be a shortage of art, fascinating museums, sights, restaurants, and other things to do during people's travels to this section of Montenegro, which makes it so boring. The administrative, economic, and educational nerve center of the country doesn't have much to offer to its residence. And you can't help but feel sorry for the residents there. While Podgorica isn't the worst location to live on the planet, it’s certainly not the best, but one of the worst cities to live in Europe.
7. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is also the country's largest and most populous city, with over 275 thousand people and an additional half a million people living in its suburban areas. As a result of various sources of air pollution compounded by other variables, Sarajevo suffers from extremely poor air quality levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Sarajevo is 105. This places it in the 'unhealthy for sensitive populations' category, indicating that the air quality would be dangerous for a large proportion of the population.
The data collected throughout 2020 showed that Sarajevo had a PM2.5 reading of 42.5 g/m3. This is an extremely high number for its yearly average. It places it once again at the higher end of the 'unhealthy for sensitive populations' category. As far as the air quality is considered, it is certainly among the worst cities to live in Europe.
