17. December 2022 - 4. January 2023. Romania. Moldavia Region. Eight of the some twenty-two Painted Churches of Bukovina in northwestern Moldavia are UNESCO-listed. Deemed masterpieces of Byzantine art, these churches with their painted exterior walls decorated with elaborate 15th and 16th century frescoes are one-of-a-kind architectural sites in Europe.

In this video, I'll show you all eight (listed below), with a sprinkling of Romanian winter holiday action (a winter birthday in Cluj-Napoca, Christmas in Sighetu Marmației, including the Winter Customs Festival, & New Year in Iași, the capital of Moldavia, and lots of food, including a bowl of ciorbă rădăuţeană at the Rădăuți restaurant where it was invented) and a deep dive into Bukovina's village of Clit, one of at least three towns in Romania named "Clit."

1. Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross, Pătrăuți
2. Church of St Nicholas, Probota
3. Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist, Arbore
4. Sucevița Monastery, Sucevița
5. Moldovița Monastery, Vatra Moldoviței
6. St George Church ("Sistine Chapel of the East") within Voroneț Monastery
7. Church of St George within St John the New Monastery, Suceava
8. Humor Monastery, Mănăstirea Humorului
