For any copyright, please send me a message.  The government has announced that Poland and Turkey have been removed from the UK government's travel corridor list.  The countries have bee moved from the list as coronavirus infection rates have increased above the government's threshold of cases per 100,000 population.  The Caribbean islands of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba have also been removed.  It means travellers arriving in the UK from these places after 4am on Saturday must self-isolate for 14 days.  The Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced the changes on Thursday afternoon.  He said: “The latest data indicates we need to remove Turkey, Poland, and Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba from the travel corridor list this week.  “This means if you arrive from these destinations from 4am Saturday 3 October, you will need to self-isolate.”  Mr Shapps said data from Poland shows that test positivity has nearly doubled increasing from 3.9 per cent to 5.8 per cent alongside a rapid increase in weekly cases, causing the Joint Biosecurity Centre to update its recommendation.  It is not yet clear what the infection rate is in Turkey, which has also been removed from the list as of 4am on Saturday.  He also added that the penalties for people who refuse to self-isolate are to be increased to a maximum of £10,000 for repeat offenders.  Mr Shapps warned Brits: "You MUST self-isolate if you enter the UK from a non-exempt country - from tomorrow, we’re increasing the penalties for people who refuse to do so to a maximum of £10,000 for repeat offenders."  He reminded people that if they do travel, they have to complete a Passenger Locator Form before returning to the UK.  Turkey, Poland, Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba have been removed from the Scottish government’s list of travel corridors, meaning travellers arriving in Scotland from those countries after 4am on Saturday must also self-isolate for 14 days, Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf has said.  Scotland will also align with other UK nations and add Madeira and the Azores to the list of destinations now exempt from quarantine requirement, he added.  There had been speculation that Italy and maindland Greece could be removed from the list as a result of a spike in cases. But both remain on the list for now.
