It is even the largest festival in the world dedicated to the trumpet and this is the pride of the small Serbian village, located three hours by road from Belgrade, which welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors for five days.In a country where brass-based ensembles are a great tradition, the event does not clash. On the other hand, the increasing attendance of foreigners is a real pride for the organizers of the rally. Every year, 200,000 to 300,000 visitors come to listen to the concerts of dozens of orchestras and among them "we have more and more foreigners", assures Marija Pavlovic.
"A Roskilde on steroids with Balkan brass"
It must be said that for trumpet lovers, it is a bit of paradise. The best orchestras, those who qualified during the year, have the right to play on the big stage, very close to the church of Guca, where the festival was born "spontaneously" in 1961. But everything else of the town also lives to the rhythm of the brass: some musicians play in the streets of the "capital of the trumpet", while others animate the meals of tourists curious to taste the local specialties in the cafes.
All this contributes to transforming into a true carnival this “Assembly of the trumpets of Dragacevo”, the official name of the demonstration of Guca. "It's like a Roskilde on steroids, with Balkan brass," exclaims Anders Vold, 25, from Denmark where he has attended the Roskilde festival, a pop-rock festival several times.
