Cricova Winery, located in the town of Cricova, 15 kilometers north of Chișinău, Moldova, is one of the most renowned wineries in the country and a major tourist attraction. Founded in 1952, it is famous for its vast underground wine cellars, stretching over 120 kilometers of limestone tunnels, originally mined in the 15th century to build Chișinău. These tunnels, converted into a wine emporium in the 1950s, form an "underground wine city" with streets named after wine varieties like Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Merlot. The cellars, reaching depths of 100 meters, maintain a constant temperature of 12-14°C and 97-98% humidity, ideal for wine storage and aging.

Cricova houses the National Oenoteca, a collection of over 1.3 million bottles, including rare wines like the 1902 "Jerusalem of Easter" and Hermann Göring’s collection, seized during World War II. The winery produces over 150 wine types, including sparkling wines made using the traditional "Méthode Champenoise," pioneered by Dom Pierre Perignon, and unique offerings like Kodrinskoie sparkling red wine. Notable figures, such as Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel, and Yuri Gagarin, have visited, with some maintaining private collections here.

The winery offers guided tours via electric trains through the tunnels, showcasing barrels, maturation areas, and tasting rooms decorated in themes like the European Hall and Sea Bottom Hall. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings paired with Moldovan cuisine, with tour packages ranging from basic to premium experiences. Cricova’s wines, exported to over 30 countries, have earned over 500 international awards, and the winery is recognized as a national cultural heritage site.
